Olympic Gold in Paris
When Meredith Scudder married her high school sweetheart in Highland Park, Texas, in 2020, she had no idea she was linking up with an Olympic Gold Medal winner who, incidentally, is also the world’s best golfer.
What happened in August 2024, in France?
PGA Tour’s website put it this way:
It was a star-spangled family affair as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler captured his seventh win of the season, the 13th of his career and first gold medal Sunday at the men’s Olympic golf competition outside of Paris.
With wife Meredith, 3-month-old son Bennett, parents Scott and Diane, and in-laws on hand at Le Golf National, the seemingly unflappable Scheffler openly wept as he stood on the top of podium with his newest piece of hardware – the unmistakable glint of gold flashing in the bright sunshine as “The Star-Spangled Banner” played in the background.
“When you go to a sporting event, you hear everybody in the stands singing the national anthem, it’s a pretty special thing to be a part of, and I think that’s something we take tremendous pride in,” he said of his emotions on the medal stand. “It was just very emotional being up there on stage there as the flag is being raised and sitting there singing the national anthem. Yes, that’s definitely one I’ll remember for a long time.”
People Magazine did an updated feature on Meredith May 14, 2024, entitled “Who is Scottie Scheffler’s Wife? All About Meredith Scudder.”
Here’s an excerpt from the article.
Scottie Scheffler hit a hole-in-one with his wife, Meredith Scudder.
The pro golfer married his high school sweetheart in 2020 after conquering four years of long distance at their respective colleges. Scudder has been by Scheffler’s side since day one, though the two started off as just friends.
“At the beginning of high school I always thought he had a super humble ambiance about him, that he was just a really down-to-earth guy that doesn’t take himself too seriously,” Scudder told Golf Digest of her husband.
The duo held off on taking their friendship to the next level for nearly three years and though she witnessed every step of Scheffler’s rise to fame, Scudder said even the most “amazing accomplishments” aren’t “the most important thing about him.”
Fans slowly grew familiar with Scudder from her tournament appearances leading up to Scheffler’s first Masters win in April 2022. She even caddied for him at one point during the weekend. At the time, Scheffler told the Los Angeles Times that his wind-down routine included “sitting back and giggling a little bit and eating some good food” with his wife.
In April 2024, Scheffler earned his second Masters jacket — but Scudder wasn’t in the audience due to being nine months pregnant with the couple’s first child.
“To my lovely wife, Meredith. I love you, sweetheart,” Scheffler said during his victory speech. “I’m excited to get home. I miss you.”
A few weeks later, Scudder gave birth to their son, Bennett.
